Although temperatures drop during the winter in Spain, you’ll still find that most days have some sunshine and more often than not, temperatures are around the 17 Celsius mark which is comfortable, especially after the heat of the summer.
What Activities can I do during my Long Stay Holiday?
When you come to Estepona during the winter months, you’ll find there are fewer tourists and you can take part in activities without the crowds.
Here are some of the things you can enjoy in Estepona during the winter:
Sightseeing
As you won’t have to be wrapping yourself up in a coat, gloves, scarf, and hat to get out and about, walking becomes a pleasant pastime. Estepona and the surrounding area has plenty of things to look at as you take a walk. You can visit the following attractions during the winter months away from the crowds:

Golf
Golf is by far one of the most popular activities in this region. That’s because some of the best golf courses in Spain are located in the Estepona area. There are around ten golf courses to choose from all within driving distance of Estepona, so it should be easy to find one that matches your golf skills and your budget.
Fishing
Many of the people who settle in Estepona do so because it has a marina and plenty of opportunities for fishing and sailing. There are several companies offering fishing tours and/or boat hire.
Boat Trips
Although boat trips are more popular in the summer, you might still have the chance to take a Dolphin spotting trip or a lunch cruise during the better weather in the winter. There’s even a company that advertises a sunrise cruise with breakfast and the chance to watch the sunrise from the water.
Hiking
Hiking is a popular pastime all over Spain. Estepona has a variety of hiking trails to suit all fitness levels. You can take a 25-minute hike to the Mirador de Salvador Guerro in the Sierra Bermeja or spend the afternoon on a long 5-hour hike on the Camino Nicola Alta.
Easy hikes are the coastal walks along the Playa del Cristo – La Rada- Playa de Angel and from the Playa del Cristo to the Playa Costa Natura. If you prefer a challenge, then a 7-hour hike from PR-A 146 Estepona to Los Reales or the 7-hour hike along the Paseo de los Pinsapos.
Life in Estepona
There are also plenty of things you can do in the evening. For example, take a stroll to a typical Spanish restaurant in one of Estepona’s cobbled streets. Where you can enjoy a meal or a drink and a tapa. Spanish people tend to eat out later than other Europeans, so you’ll find it’s busier between 9pm and 10.30 pm.
Lunch is normally served from about 1pm until 4pm. Look out for establishments that have menu of the day. These menus usually consist of 3 courses and a drink for under 12 euros a head.
Visit the Peña Flamenco on one of the evenings they have music and dancing which is usually about once a week.
You can also take a trip to the Felipe VI theatre. It’s not just Spanish performers that appear you can listen to classical music, see a tribute band, or watch a magic show.
